Flood damage repairs in Wiltshire
Repair starts when the readings say the building is dry, and not a day before. Plastering over a wall that is still giving up water is the most common expensive mistake in this trade, and it is entirely avoidable when the same people did the drying.
What it involves
Plaster, floors, joinery and decoration put back properly.
Strip-out first, where it is needed. Saturated plasterboard, blown plaster, swollen chipboard and contaminated insulation come out. We take out what has to go and leave what can be saved, which is a judgement made against readings rather than a blanket removal to a set height.
Then the fabric goes back. Plastering to match the existing finish, floors relaid or replaced, skirtings, architraves and door linings remade, kitchen units refitted or replaced where the carcasses have gone. Where a material was original — lime plaster, old boards, moulded skirting — we match it rather than substitute the nearest modern equivalent.
Sequencing is the part that saves time. First fix electrics and plumbing get done while walls are open, plaster gets its own drying period, and decoration follows once the new plaster is dry enough to take paint. Rushing that produces a flat patchy wall that has to be done twice.
Because we dried the building we already know where the water went, which materials were affected and what the readings did. Nothing has to be explained twice, and nobody arrives to quote on a job they cannot see the history of.
